I dunno why but I like clean prop planes rather than weathered ones. Looking good. and images work fine for me...

Weird, I see them now, before it just said IMAGE IMAGE IMAGE bla bla bla. So Flim, I'm assuming you're doing historically accurate paint jobs because, like... what's the point otherwise of painting up a historical dude... so... What sort of resources exist for that stuff? I'd imagine it's kinda tricky, with era photographs being black and white - were there a lot of portraits done for prop posters or matchbook art or shenanigans like that?

I always assumed you would use museum photographs. Also there are books about historical prop planes that feature detailed photos of the restored aircraft I think I've seen a few geared towards aircraft modelers at my LHS. The prop planes them selves are scarce in working models but you don't need a working model to take a photo.

Ah. So there's a decent effort to keep the "famous flyers" in shape for museum display, that makes sense. Probably a better set of those in Europe than the US. I've been on some naval museum ships here, a full battleship and a full submarine. That's about it tho.

Flim- that is a thing of beauty! It's really nice to look at. I'm curios about the cowling. Is it a historical detail, was the cowl replaced? My $.02 as far as where you get references is "all of the above". Several comapnies make reference books (the most famous I know of being Squadron, here's an example: http://www.squadronsignalpublications.c ... tem=SS1073) and people who like airplanes tend to accumulate libraries of airplane books. Museum planes are tricky. For instance there is a P-47D at a local Air Museum called "Spirit of Atlantic City, New Jersey". It's a real P-47D, but it isn't THE "Spirit of Atlantic City". The actual plane from WWII was most likely scrapped after becomeing "War Weary" (too old for combat) or damaged beyond repair (somebody out there surely knows, I don't off the top of my head). The plane at the museam was likely made at a different factory. Different factories often used different parts (think the Toyota gas pedal recall, it doesn't affect Toyotas made in Japan because they install a different pedal) and painted the interiors of the planes in different colors. Plus the plane at the museum has been restored and has been repainted. Plus the museum plane may have modern avionics and surely has the original radio and weapons removed and is likely modified to carry a second person in it. Plus the museum plane always sports a new paint job and it's waxed and washed before every airshow.

Thanks guys :D @Mvm3897: Don't where to start? Need any help? Just send me a message, hehe :) @Zakenna, Robodevil: Yeah, I think there is a bit more reference regarding these kind of planes over here in Europe. Some people even make replica's and fly them (scale 1:2 or 1:3). Then there are shitloads of magazine's, walkaround website's and other reference material. Plus colorcodes were all documented and more or less stayed the same during the war. Some things changed, but no big changes. @Funaka: And about the cowling, the colors are supposed to be so different... Don't know, but it could be it has been replaced once ;) I am now working on a P-51D/K Mustang using Alclad II for the first time. Don't heavy any reference material for that one, but the next beast -and I really mean beast with 60cm- a Fw200 Condor C-4 will be more accurate. If you are interested you can take a look at the progress of the Mustang over here: Topic is over here, but in Dutch ;) http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/phpBB3/view ... =1&t=25623When it is finished I will post it up here too, but I am just too lazy to keep making double posts in Dutch and English
