Post Tyrannosaurs vs Triceratops scene *WIP*
Here is something I've been slowly working on over the last few months, a scene involving some Tyrannosaurs and a dead Triceratops :

http://www.ghostofzeon.com/wip/dinosaurs/trex/wip.html

So far, I've nearly prepared all three Dinosaurs for painting which involved a ton of filling, reproducing skin textures and modifying the Triceratops to look 'dead'.

Thoughts and suggestions are more than welcome so let me know what you think so far.

I don't really have any suggestions, but man, that T-Rex must be pretty big in 1/35 scale!

The large T-Rex is actually in 1/20 scale. The kit itself is approximately 18 inches from end to end (it would be longer if the head and tail weren't bent).

The Triceratops is 1/35 and the smaller Rex is 1/40.

Been a while since I updated this one but here it is :

Painting of the Triceratops done - just need to give him a wash and then I can move on to the T-Rex.

Update - The main colours of the Rex has been painted and it's looking very 'crocodillian' at the moment.

I have also experimented with drawing on veins so I am interested in how they look, so please let me know what you think.

I feel like it's missing something that isn't too late to add on with some sheet styrene and a little luck. I was going through one of my older dinosaur journals - I know, I know, the views are a little passe - but if you look at this picture of how they used to think TRex looked...

edit: OUCH! burned by the hotlink! The original image was not of a naked man kicking babies, but rather this:
Spoiler: show

I think you could stand to add a few missile launchers.

On a more serious note, I'm curious about something. Do you think there's a way for some of those stronger veins to build up the thickness a little, like the skin is raised? I would think a pissed off, adrenaline rushed dino might have a little rage-vein in his neck or so. I'm not even sure if I would recommend doing it, I'm more wanting to know if you DID, how would you go about it?

I probably wouldn't do that where the veins are drawn on at the moment - they are more for the sorts of veins that are deep in the skin but are still visible.

For the bulging type of vein, I would use some Milliput rolled into very thin sausages. I would attach them to the kit and then blend in the edges so it looks like a raised area of skin rather than a bit of putty whacked on.

I did a similar thing with the Incredible Hulk. There was a bulging vein that crossed over the join where the arm and body pieces met and I replaced the said vein with some Milliput.

So basically if it's not dramatic enough to do it with clay as a mold to the model, it's not worth doing super-subtly at the painting stage. I gotta try using Milliput sometime... and some supersculpy FIRM.
